Mrs. Hofmann’s  Expectations and Responsibilities

Welcome!  You have an interesting year in store for you; a year filled with lots of opportunities to stretch your imagination and improve your academic skills.  In order for you to make the most of these opportunities, it’s important to realize YOU play a very important role in your own learning process.  As your teacher, I will do my best to help you succeed, but I cannot do it without your help!!

IMPORTANT DETAILS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Respect – In order to have a classroom environment that allows each person an equal opportunity to learn, it is important that everyone respect others in every fashion.  This includes:  do not grab, mutilate, hide or take others property; respect others answers and ideas during class discussion; raise your hand, listen and take turns.
  2. Tardies – You should be in the room and in your assigned seat when the bell rings at the beginning AND end of the period.  You are not automatically dismissed by the bell but by me.  I realize that it is possible to be unavoidably delayed.  If this happens, be sure to get a pass and enter the room in a non-disruptive fashion.
  3. Be Prepared – You are responsible for bringing all assignments to class COMPLETED and ready to hand in at the time they are due.  If incomplete assignments become a problem and/or a recurring event, parents will be informed via phone call or email in addition to receiving a deficiency.  Additionally, students may be asked to stay after school to get the assignment completed.  You need to bring all needed materials such as paper/notebook, textbook/novel, free reading book, and black or blue pen to class EVERY DAY!  NO NEON COLORED PENS!! AND ABSOLUTELY NO RED PEN!!!  **You will receive some free passes to help alleviate the stress of being rushed from class to class – some days can be hectic (I know, been there!)  The passes will be explained.
  4. Absences and make-up work – follow the policy in the student handbook – I will work with you.
  5. Blinds, Windows, Air conditioner, and fans – the only one that will be allowed to adjust these is the teacher.  If you are too cold/hot or the sun is in your eyes, tell me and I will gladly adjust these for you.  Absolutely No Student is allowed to use the phone in the room – For teacher use Only!!
  6. Furniture – No one will be allowed to climb over the desks or chairs, tip the desks or chairs back or write on them.  When caught doing so, the individual will clean all desks AFTER school.  The couch and dorm chairs are a PRIVILEGE!  Any inappropriate use - such as writing, gum, poking holes, or SLEEPING – will result in suspense of the couch/chairs for the entire year.  If an individual cannot be pen-pointed for the damage, the whole class will lose couch/chair privileges.
  7. Inappropriate Language – WILL NOT be accepted at any time in the classroom.
  8. Eyes on Own Work – At all times you are to keep your eyes on your own work.  If you choose not too, you will receive a zero for the test, quiz, project, etc.  Your parents will also be called/notified.
  9. Cooperate with a Substitute – No questions asked concerning any names appearing on a report from a substitute.  You will automatically come in AFTER school for half-an-hour.

*Deviation from any of the above mentioned expectations/responsibilities can and/or will result in spending time with me before/after school.  Your consequence for deviating from the above mentioned may not be identified the day of the infraction; I will inform the student after I have had time to think about an appropriate consequence.
